Le reggae est né en Jamaïque mais depuis la mort de Bob Marley, c'est en Afrique qu'il a trouvé son nouveau prophète. Alpha Blondy est un des rares artistes à pouvoir se prévaloir d'une aura planétaire dans ce genre musical, et il l'a prouvé depuis son premier hit international, « Brigadier Sabari », encore aujourd'hui un des points forts de ses concerts près de trente ans après sa sortie.
