Description :
1963 : La jeune Eva Bruhns, interprète en polonais à Francfort, vit avec ses parents propriétaires du restaurant "Deutsches Haus". Tout le monde attend les fiançailles d'Eva avec le riche héritier d'une maison de vente par correspondance. C'est alors qu'Eva est engagée au pied levé pour assurer les traductions lors d'un procès pénal contre d'anciens dignitaires nazis d'Auschwitz qui va se dérouler en ville. Les parents d'Eva et son futur fiancé s'opposent à ce travail. Mais Eva, qui n'a jamais entendu parler d'Auschwitz, ressent une obligation intérieure et accepte cette mission, bravant ainsi toutes les réticences. C'est au cours de son travail de traduction qu'Eva va mesurer l'ampleur de la machine d'extermination nazie. Elle comprend progressivement qu'elle est personnellement liée à ce lieu.
